Breeding Program

Belveu Farm and Montgomery Farm have become partners to achieve their vision of a family of calm, trusting walking horses that perform the true running walk and canter.  The breeding program designed by Mikal Spooner and Hal Bowden is based on the following beliefs: The mare is the major influence on the foal; ability is the best driver of breed development; the most important indicator is generational changes; and that a long term commitment of 8-10 generations of horses is required.

To start, five Montgomery Farm mares were selected to be the foundation mares for the program. In 2007 we began testing our second generation horses.  All horses added to the breeding herd must meet the following criteria: They have no obvious genetic defects; they have a true and fast running walk; they have the desired temperament to be a safe and pleasant family horse; and to be a top show horse in the NWHA show circuit.

We are excited about the progress of our breeding program. Our first all-in-house colts, colts bred within our breeding program, will start arriving in late 2014.  Our 3rd generation horses will begin showing in 2015.  We are thrilled about the future and the potential of our breeding program.

This is Prince! He is our first all-in-house foal! Here he is pictured with his dam, Heavenly Collection, a.k.a. Grandy, who has done very well in her show career. Prince's daddy is Gypsy Lady's Dream, a.k.a. Skippy, who has been showing very well this season. We have very high hopes for this guy!
